Senior Leaders Induction

On Tuesday this week we inducted our 2020 Senior Leaders to their roles at Christ Church. I have been impressed with the creative ideas that have been proposed by this group of students and I look forward to working with them this year to achieve these goals. I am sure they will be ably supported by the rest of the Year 12 cohort who also have a lot of talent and motivation. Good luck to this year’s Year 12 cohort!

Digital Thumbprint Workshops

On Thursday 13 February 2020, Optus Digital Thumbprint will be running fun and engaging cyber safety workshops in the Lecture Theatre for Year 7 to 10 students. These workshops teach students the advantages of a positive online presence whilst arming them with the facts they need to stay safe online, in a way they can understand, use and enjoy.

The program for the day has four distinct workshops designed for each Year level. The program for Year 10 looks at their Digital Identity which as we have seen recently is very important.

Students are given the opportunity to examine their social media profiles and posts through the lens a boss applies in the process of hiring and during employment. Activities raise awareness of the importance of creating an online and offline balance for healthier relationships and lifestyles. Students are given the tools and knowhow to create a digital brand and to enhance it through proactively using social media to raise social awareness on issues, or to use it to promote entrepreneurialism. Digital citizenship themes such as online/offline balance, discernment, privacy, connectedness, reputation and cyber-safety and are threaded throughout the workshop.

Should you wish to know more information about the program, please head to their website www.digitalthumbprint.com.au

The Optus Digital Thumbprint team is also partnering with St Luke’s Anglican School to offer parents a free seminar about challenges of the digital world for young people – and how to deal with them. Digital Thumbprint for Parents will provide practical information and resources so that parents and caregivers can support young people to be safe, responsible, and positive online. It covers everything from password security, to gaming, social media, and cyberbullying.

Behaviour Management

We have made some adjustments to our Pastoral Care system which enables us to notify parents through email and Parent Lounge when a student has received a lunchtime detention.  You will see this notification at the top right of your Parent Lounge screen and by opening the notification you will be able to read the comment left by the House Coordinator. If you require more information about the notification please contact the teacher issuing the detention in the first instance.

Academic Colours

Our Academic Assembly recognising students who have achieved Academic Colours in 2019 will be held on Tuesday 11 February. The guest speaker will be William Anderson who graduated from St Luke’s in 2011. I am sure he will have an engaging story to tell. I hope that parents are able to attend this event and I look forward to seeing many of you there.
